Natural Ways To Whiten Your Teeth
July 16, 2019Revity RevityBlogDental Hygiene

Looking for whiter teeth without trying expensive over the counter or prescribed teeth whitening remedies? There are many natural ways you can whiten your teeth—whether it’s changing some habits or using some household items, naturally whitening your teeth is a cinch.

What Causes Teeth to Yellow?

We’ve all been there before—the confused way our teeth are yellow, wanting whiter teeth. Yellowing can be a result of excessive plaque build-up, usually a result of poor oral hygiene habits. When hard enamel has eroded away, revealing dentin underneath. Dentin is naturally yellow and will cause your smile to look less white. Even if you have great oral hygiene habits, you may still be dealing with yellow teeth. There are certain foods that can stain the enamel, causing your teeth to appear more yellow.

Natural Whitening Remedies

Looking for a way to whiten your teeth? If you want to make your pearly whites a little whiter naturally without trying any prescription or over the counter whitening remedies, there are some natural options to try.

  • Brush with Baking Soda—baking soda is a natural whitening agent and can be found in many commercial kinds of toothpaste. Baking can scrub away stains from your teeth and also help to prevent bacteria growth.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar—apple cider vinegar can have a bleaching effect, as it can effectively kill bacteria. There is acetic acid in this vinegar that can erode the enamel from your teeth, for this reason, it should be used sparingly.
  • Crispy Fruits and Vegetables—Fruits and vegetables are good for your health in many ways, including your oral health. Many fruits and veggies have certain acids and properties that can remove stains from your teeth. Crispy fruits and veggies can also help to dislodge food that may be caught in your teeth. Certain acids in fruits can also be beneficial to your teeth.
  • Oil Pulling—This is a traditional Indian folk remedy that is meant to remove toxins from the body and improve oral health. Swish the oil around in your mouth and spit it out. This can remove bacteria that is causing your teeth to yellow.

How To Prevent Staining

Another natural whitening remedy can be to avoid yellowing. This can be done with good oral hygiene—don’t underestimate the power of daily brushing and flossing. No matter what tips and tricks you try, nothing can replace brushing twice a day and flossing at least once a day. Once you’ve mastered these habits, there are a few other things that can help to prevent teeth staining. Changing your diet can help. Limiting sugar intake will make a difference. Sugar can weaken your teeth and cause cavities and decay. Other foods can cause staining on your teeth. Foods and drinks such as coffee, soda, red wine, and dark berries can leave stains on our teeth. Cutting out or limiting these things in your diet will help to lessen the staining. Adding more calcium into your diet will help strengthen your teeth.
